Tribes Affinity Groups
So what’s your hobby?
Most of us have hobbies or interests outside of work and most of us commit significant amounts of time in our week in pursuit of that interest.
Why? Because it’s something we like to do! Hobbies renew, energize, fulfill, and bless us. They also bring us closer together with people we share them with.
So, what would happen if you harnessed the power of your hobbies and made them work to share the love of Jesus?
What would it look like if you took peoples’ natural interests (and their tendency to go out of their way to pursue them) and used it as a tool to create community?
Our answer – Affinity Tribes.
What are affinity tribes?
Affinity tribes are expressions of community within our church that aren’t centered on a curriculum or Bible study but on a shared interest. From sports to scrap booking, coffee to carpentry, these are the most natural avenues to help others experience community within our church.
Are affinity tribes a valid expression of community?
Absolutely! Can motorcycle riders form relationships, have serious conversations, and even talk about spiritual matters as they hang out together to ride? Yes! Riding isn’t the focus – it’s just a catalyst for relationship and a reason to get together.
People experience community in many different ways. For many, the biggest barrier to community is that awkward moment when you meet someone and you’re not really sure what to say or what you have in common. Affinity tribes give people an immediate connection, and a starting point from which to build a deeper relationship.
We believe that our affinity tribes provide a front-door opportunity for people to connect at KV. We believe that they have the power to reach out and transform our church, community, and world.
Bottom line: People make time to do what they enjoy. It can also be a challenge to convince people to carve out time for small-group life, so why not piggy-back on something they’re already choosing to do on a regular basis?
Are you ready to take your hobby or interest to another level?
