My family and I are relocating from Manchester in the UK, to Rothesay in Saint John. I have two teenage children and I definitely will have no qualms about them mixing with other Christian youth, as long as Jesus Christ, His sacrifice on the cross and salvation through His name are kept in focus at these meetings. I would rather that they acquaint themselves and make friends with other youth of like faith, than with the youth of the world. Why would some Pastors not want their youth to participate in this sort of events? Is it the same Jesus Christ we all preach and believe in? Are we all members of His body here on earth?

"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all". (Ephesians 4:4-6)

May there be many more events like this, to help us maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Amen God bless you.

Great insight Pastor Jim. Very encouraging for those who have walked through the dry season and have forgotten to reflect. Taking time to reflect on what God has done in our past enables us to move forward in a new and refreshing way. Yes, the greatest days are yet to come.

Linda,
Thank you so much for sharing this important info and serious stats! Very good stuff for all adults to keep in mind. Children are more impressionable than we often realize.
Thank you for all you do!

Brent, Incredible message! Incredible truth! Incredibly clear! Incredibly relevant! Incredibly personal! Incredibly for 'everyone'! Incredible simple, yet powerful truth!

Wow! What a service, the music and preaching were just wonderful. Nice sunny day, lobby full of lots of things going on - as one fellow said to me today - just like the 'market' - lots for everyone!

I am so thankful to hear the wisdom you share! I have never heard of the comparison of Jesus being led by the Spirit into the desert to the Israelites and the OT! God has blessed you with a fine gift in sharing, and I can tell you learned so very much in Bible School! As I have said INCREDIBLE!! May God bless you today! And your family! I am trying to figure out how little Aiden can look so much like Melanie and then when yo flash a photo of you and your dad - all of a sudden he looks like you!!?? too funny! too cute!!

Thank you Brent! Love the worship album, love this video! I emailed it to a friend. The same friend I bought a copy of the album for at Christmas. That album is a great outreach tool, but is also a valuable encourager for me. Having those songs, hearing you and Kelly's voices at home or in my car, has made many a down or stressful day easier. I can close my eyes and be back in the sanctuary worshiping with you. I thank God for your perseverance to make this album.

I love this.... "Most of the time we do not place trust in God or others, we place expectations on them. We expect them to be certain things, do certain things, feel certain ways. And when they inevitably fail to live up to the expectations, that’s when pain comes. If we expect something that hasn’t been promised, or expect someone to keep a promise they cannot, and call it trust, that is a fast track to suffering."
I know myself I do this sometimes and it just ends up hurting me..What a great reminder that I need to hear and to remember to trust in the real God and not in my expectations of Him or others around me.God is the only constant thing in our lives. He is always here and always loving but we try as humans to control our lives and our suroundings and we just can't do that and it is freeing when you realize that, let go and completly TRUST in HIM.He truly has our best intrest at heart even when we don't see it.Great Job!!!!

One of my favorite traditions from Christmas as a child was one of the simplest ones... I remember my mom always getting mixed nuts (still in the shell) and it was one of the few times of the year we had some. I can close my eyes and still remember how it felt to reach deep into my stocking and feel them at the bottom, or waking up in the morning and picking through the leftover cracked shells people had left in the bowl to see if anyone missed any :D

As for traditions for our "now" family specifically, one of my favorites is my mom coming over on Christmas day to spend the afternoon in our home and have Christmas dinner with us. I also love providing Christmas to a family or people in need, we've been doing that since 2005, and Christmas wouldn't be the same without it.

I also love providing Christmas to a family or people in need, we’ve been doing that since 2005, and Christmas wouldn’t be the same without it.

Traditions have been a big part of our life too, and it's amazing how much the kids appreciate them even as they have grown older (like yours Linda!). One of the favourites has been the "nut" on Christmas morning. I started this tradition when the kids were babies... they are now 20, 23, and 25 - and we still do this every year. I posted this on my site CanadianParents.com many years ago. Here it is: http://www.canadianparents.com/recipe/christmas-morning-cinnamon-buns

I could have written this post... except we so rarely have company/visitors that I don't have as much opportunity to be a neglectful hostess, LOL! :0) Then again ... since hubby is the tea/coffee drinker in the family, I suppose I could leave that responsibility to him, right?

This made me chuckle this morning... Larry and I are the exact same! Neither of us drink coffee or serve coffee if you come to visit. My dad bought his own coffee maker, filters and brings coffee when he comes to visit. He even packages it up and stores it when he leaves knowing that we won't touch it :)

I do drink Tea - but being "American" I like sugar in it. I believe this is worse than not liking coffee... asking for sugar for my tea. I repeat myself 2 times everytime I order it from Tim's - "Did you say sugar in your tea?" "yes, I said sugar". It's called sweet tea, and it's much better chilled.

Agreed. 100%. We need to demonstrate to the world that Christmas IS about CHRIST, not shopping, presents, stress, baking, decorations… it isn’t about the next best toy or the high def TV. It is about the gift that we received from God, His son. It was the ultimate act of selflessness and sacrifice. If we focused on this at Christmas, what we can give to those who really need more, not want more; people would start to see CHRIST in Christmas. If we actively sought out opportunities to do acts of kindness and blessing during this season, then people would start to see CHRIST in Christmas.

I see why it is confusing for people. Many of us as Christians go through the entire season celebrating, having parties, worried about money and some are driven into states of depression due to the pressure of the holidays. Then we say it is all about Jesus. We don’t make sense. We attend our church service and hope it doesn’t go late… we place money in the Christmas offering on Christmas Eve (but it is only the leftovers after buying all the things everyone asked for and wanted).

I love your statement, “We create a season that is so dependent on Christ Himself that the world would just know, Christmas is all about Jesus.” We need to refocus and do this. As Mike Ross would say, “DO IT NOW!”

Thanks. But my blood pressure is now up. 

What an amazing thought!

Great Job Brent.Your message is bang on and I agree with you.Where would Christmas be if there was no Christ?!?!?I don't think it would of lasted this long if it wasn't for Christ and His Love for us.I love when you said, "Christmas is not about what gift, but the gift of being loved enough by someone that they actually wanted to give you something in the first place. THAT is the gift." So True!!! Again,Great Job!!!

Great job Mark!!!! I love where you wrote ,
Honesty truly changes us.
When we live honestly, our words line up with our actions…
Our public life matches our private lives…
We demonstrate commitment to living to one truth not many.
Amen!!!

Thank you Denise for sharing your heart. Seeking the Lord's advice when we are making decisions that effect our children is so important. Some things are out of our control, like with the death of a loved one. But other circumstances are within our control and we can choose a different path for our families. It may not be the easy one for us, but it can make a difference for the better. Giving your children the chance to trust Jesus, is the best gift you can give your child. His BEST is something they can always trust.

Linda, you have captured here what I have been trying to express for years. I am in agreement that kids don't just get over stuff because they don't talk about it. Whenever I talk to people about things I have done as a Mom that I wish I could take back, people say things like, "Oh, don't worry about it. Kids are resilient." I think that'ssaid in an effort to make me feel better, but it really doesn't. It just shows me that they don't care as much about my kids' feelings as I do. Kids do process things differently than we do (as I learned after my husband died) but just because it's different, it doesn't mean they're over it. It's important as parents to make wise decisions that affect our children and to seek God's counsel. And introducing them to Christ is the greatest gift we can give them. He will never leave them nor forsake them and, He, unlike we, imperfect parents, will ALWAYS do what's best for them.

The Bible app is Awesome! I'm trying to read the whole bible but I'm stuck in Genesis, but really, it is a great app to have on the phone... Also I LOVE Daily Verse and read it everyday. Each day the come out with a verse from the Bible that has to do with everyday stuff and you read the verse then, read an explanation of the verse and then at the bottom there is a prayer that has to do with the verse that was just read... It is great to get into the habit of using it everyday and just prayer to God for whatever is going on at that time.... Thanks for sharing this! Love it!!!!!!!!!!!

Jillian and I especially enjoyed reading The Jesus Storybook Bible together, as a springboard to discussing and reading more in depth in her own Bible. We took it on vacation with us last year, made for some sweet memories!

Pastor Brent, you are right on target with the idea that what we need is a global year of Jubilee. I think that reforms in the spirit of the jubilee are achievable in our time. Maybe that sounds absurd, but God's word has the answer for all our problems, including economic ones, and jubilee is not as utopian an idea as many believe.

Ever hear of Frank Clewer? You can google him (Wikipedia), but in summary his story tells of once carrying over 40,000 volts of static electricity in his body, allegedly generated by a wool sweater and nylon jacket combination, prompting fire departments to evacuate three buildings where he had left his mark before he realized he was causing the burn marks on carpets. The electricity didn't kill him (although it could have)- but what is so amazing is the POTENTIAL power he wielded.

I just read a book called "You Are God's Plan A", and the author compared this potential power to the potential power we have as followers of Jesus. The author, Dwight Robertson, shared "Christians like you and me walk around with God's amazing presence and transformational power at work within us, and we're often not even aware of it.". I like how you called this out better though- "How we live move and operate are completely different without His power" and "Jesus wants us all to experience LIFE in HIS power" and "trust Jesus to begin to light up the world around you." Actively trusting conduits in the WHAT’s and HOW’s of our lives.

Thanks Brent. I completely agree. The very purpose of worship is to praise Jesus- not obtain something from Him. I googled for scriptures on this, and one verse seems to draw it out very well- from John 4:23-24 (The Message):

"It's who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That's the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration."

Pouring yourself out in worship- pouring it out from your 'very being'- should be done just because Jesus is worthy.

Thanks for the insight.. as usual! :)
